Never Forget: Nine Years Late – Sea Change

The mistaken new Oval Office rug in which one quote is falsely attributed and another is taken out of context is both food for the foot as well as a heartening reminder that, like rugs, societal ignorance and confusion do not last forever.

As of this writing the burning of Korans in Florida is being “rethought.” Some unconfirmed and confusing reports suggest that the infamous proposed Ground Zero mosque would be moved, apparently, in return for the cancellation of “Everybody Burn a Koran day.” Other reports suggest that the Imam will not move the Ground Zero mosque at all.

Late on the 9th it is reported that Pastor Terry Jones feels “lied to” and that Imam Rauf plans to go forward with the Ground Zero mosque regardless of any discussions. Jones says that he will fly to New York to meet with Rauf on the 11th. One wonders how that “bridge building” meeting will turn out.

Even worse, Imam Rauf of the Ground Zero mosque, said on September 8th that if the mosque was not built the United States could be attacked by Muslims.

A Florida pastor who called off a Quran burning said late Thursday that he would “rethink our position” after a Muslim leader said the minister incorrectly announced that the proposed Islamic center near New York’s ground zero would be moved as part of a deal.” (CNN, 9/9/10)

Late reports suggest that there is no deal at all, and that the Koran burning event may continue after all.

After the news conference, however, Musri told The Associated Press there is no deal to move the mosque. He said there was only an agreement for him and Jones to travel to New York and meet Saturday with the imam overseeing plans to build a mosque near ground zero.

The proposed burning of Korans by a small Florida sect has commanded the attention of the country and the world for several days and for good reason. The reason is fear.

World leaders from General Patreaus far away in the capital of Afghanistan, the Pope, a former US President, the Secretary of State and others, indeed even the current resident of the White House himself have commented unfavorably. INTERPOL issued an international warning that violence may occur across the world due to the “Burn a Koran” event.

Scores were killed in rioting across the world when cartoon images of the prophet were published in a Danish Newspaper several years ago. The cartoonist, Kurt Westergaard, must guard his safety well. Even Salmon Rushdie, too, continues to live under threat of violence and death from Islam adherents. If such a violent, barbaric reaction can occur on account of cartoons imagine the response to public destruction of Islam’s holy book – this is the foundation of Western fears.

More people than ever now understand what is happening and see the words vs. deeds of the adherents of Islam. Remember the old adage, “Don’t listen to what they say, watch what they do?”

We live in a society of great opportunity though we are now in decline. Our decline is not pre-ordained to last forever, and it won’t. People who live in comparative luxury and opportunity are slow to see threats growing over time (the same denial occurred prior to WW2). The mosque at Ground Zero is now the flashpoint of our culture as it should be.

A large majority of American citizens oppose it, while our elitist “progressive” clueless, multicultural, internationalist, “leaders” support it. This support by our leadership for ideas and policies and oppositional ideologies that are opposed by the American people will be one of the main reasons why the leadership class will be rejected by the electorate.

When 9/11 occurred few knew anything about Islam or jihad; now many millions of Americans know all about it. The more they learn, the more they are not favorably disposed to it.

Since 9/11 two Koranic quotes have been trotted out again and again to show, despite mass murders and ongoing terror/jihad attacks against non-Muslims, that Islam is peaceful and that the jihadists have misunderstood their doctrine. This approach has been surprisingly successful since 9/11 – no longer.

These Koranic lines are usually delivered incomplete and without context, and have invariably been used to illustrate what multiculturalists and progressives want Islam to be and to deny what it actually is. As we approach the 9th anniversary of 9/11, this approach is finished.

There are two favored quotes that fans of Islam recite to “prove” that Islam is a religion of peace. Sura 2, verse 256, and Sura 5, verse 32 are very popular among defenders of Islam – they are always delivered without context and incomplete. 2:256 is the “no compulsion in religion” verse while 5:32 is the one about if somebody kills somebody else “it shall be as if he had killed all mankind.”

Yes, there is no compulsion in religion, if one submits to Islam.

There is no compulsion in religion. The right direction is henceforth distinct from error. And he who rejecteth false deities and believeth in Allah hath grasped a firm handhold which will never break. Allah is Hearer, Knower. (Koran, 2:256)

Interestingly, in the following verse, 2:257, non-Muslims are condemned. So much for “no compunction in religion.”

As for those who disbelieve, their patrons are false deities. They bring them out of light into darkness. Such are rightful owners of the Fire. They will abide therein. (Koran, 2:257)

5:32 is addressed specifically to Jews. Islam has a special hatred (enmity) for Jews.

On that account: We ordained for the Children of Israel that if any one slew a person – unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land – it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people. Then although there came to them Our apostles with clear signs, yet, even after that, many of them continued to commit excesses in the land. (Koran, 5:32)

“Abrogation” means that all the early portions of the Koran that could be interpreted as being almost nice are canceled out (abrogated) entirely by later verses that are not nice at all. For example, Sura 9:5 sets the standard for not nice. The tone of hate and violence in 9:5 is common in the later verses. Because of abrogation the later verses, such as 9:5, are the standard for Islam in perpetuity. For the non-Muslim, the kafir, there is no “nice” in Islamic doctrine.

Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. (Koran, 9:5) (See here for Sword Verses in the Koran.)

What we are seeing in the United States is a sea-change moment. The truth of 9/11 and all the subsequent jihad terror attacks are finally being understood.

The mosque at Ground Zero is a great offense to any decent person who loves his country. It is said that every silver cloud has a dark lining; for whatever reason, 9/11 was not enough. No longer.

It took a slap in the face to our national character and identity which the proposed Ground Zero mosque represented to solidify the idea that something terribly dangerous and wrong is happening, that what we have been told and continue to be told about Islam by our progressive, ignorant leadership elite is false.

The cobwebs and sorrow of 9/11 and Fort Hood are clearing a little, and the long-delayed righteous anger is rising. As the current resident of the White House has said, “I know, too, that Islam has always been a part of America’s story.” He is correct, in a sense.

Thomas Jefferson created the US Navy, and we fought our first international war after the Revolution, to fight the “Barbary Pirates” – jihadists.

Welcome to the flow of history – it will be a torrent.
