U.S. Muslim Group Seeks Islamic Domination

In the wake of 9/11, it became rare for American Islamist groups to openly call for the establishment of Islamic sharia law or the revival of the pan-Islamic state, or caliphate. Media-savvy, Muslim Brotherhood-linked operations like the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) and its ilk have attempted to tone down their pro-sharia, pro-jihad rhetoric in public in order to escape government scrutiny (in the process, receiving the warm–and, some would say, knowing–embrace of the Obama administration). Now along comes Hizb ut-Tahrir America, which apparently has no such inhibitions. HTA is the U.S. arm of Hizb ut-Tahrir, a terrorist-linked Islamist group that calls for sharia law on a global scale and, yes, the long awaited return of the caliphate.

HTA was scheduled to hold its second annual conference outside of Chicago on July 11th until public pressure forced the Chicago Marriot Oak Brook to cancel the event (which was held at a Hilton hotel near Chi-town last year). According to HTA’s website, the event–titled Emerging World Order: How the Khilafa Will Shape the World–will still take place later this month at a yet-to-be determined American location. U.S. government officials should act preemptively here and follow the lead of Germany, the Netherlands, Russia and several Middle Eastern countries by banning Hizb ut-Tahrir outright.

In addition to its calls for the imposition of sharia–a revolutionary, anti-democratic concept which stands clearly in opposition to the U.S. constitution–the group supports the destruction of Israel and openly calls for jihad against non-believers. Here’s an example of the latter from a Hizb ut-Tahrir pamphlet I purchased in London a few months back, entitled, simply, Hizb ut-Tahrir, and released by UK-based Al-Khilafa Publications:

And therefore jihad is not a a defensive war; it is in fact a war to raise the Word of Allah (swt), and it is compulsory originally in order to spread Islam and to carry its message even if the disbelievers did not attack us (emphasis added).

For years, contacts in Great Britain–including former members–have told me about the dangerous influence wielded by Hizb ut-Tahrir among young British Muslims. Yet despite vows by Tony Blair to shut HT down following the 2005 London mass transit bombings, the group continues to thrive on British soil today, where it serves as a “conveyor belt” for terrorism. Nevertheless, an Obama administration adviser on Muslim affairs, Dalia Mogahed, appeared on a British television program in October 2009 hosted by–you guessed it–a proud member of Hizb ut-Tahrir. In that appearance, Mogahed defended Islamic sharia law and remained mum as the show’s host and other hardcore Islamists bashed the West. She offered this lame, unrepentant mea culpa when called on the carpet about it afterwards. Since Mogahed is apparently so keen on sharia, I wonder how she felt about recent calls for death by stoning by Hizb ut-Tahrir’s Indonesian branch.
