The protesters that were arrested at Breitbart Senior editor MILO’s event at Michigan State University have been released from police custody, but face potentially severe charges.
A report from the Lansing State Journal claims that the protesters could ultimately face up to two years in jail on resisting and obstructing charges. This is in addition to a potential 90 days in jail for violating Michigan State University’s disorderly assembly or conduct ordinance.
Seven people, including two students, were arrested Wednesday night while protesting Milo Yiannopoulos’ speaking event on campus, MSU Police Cpt. Doug Monette said. Police sought misdemeanor charges against all seven for allegedly violating MSU’s disorderly assembly or conduct ordinance. The punishment, if convicted, is up to 90 days in jail, a $100 fine, or both.
MSU Police officers used a megaphone to announce protesters were violating MSU’s ordinance five minutes before moving protesters away from the door of Conrad Hall, where Yiannopoulos spoke.
The report goes on to include that the protesters could face a felony charge for resisting and obstructing charges.
Police also requested resisting and obstructing charges against five of those arrested, including one student. It’s a felony charge under the Michigan Penal Code, punishable by up to two years in jail, a fine of $2,000, or both.
