Kansas Secretary of State and ally to President Trump, Kris Kobach, has quickly consolidated conservative support in his bid to unseat establishment Gov. Jeff Coyler.
On Wednesday, fellow conservative and Wichita businessman Wink Hartman announced he was dropping out of the Kansas gubernatorial race to endorse Kobach.
Kobach said of the endorsement:
Like Wink, I am fed-up with the dysfunction in Topeka which has led to multiple tax hikes, ethical scandals, and constant litigation on education. Topeka isn’t getting it right and we need a new, conservative direction.
Wink is a Kansas success story – starting several companies from scratch. This is exactly what our state needs more of – entrepreneurs who invest and create new jobs right here at home. I look forward to receiving his counsel on how we expand the Kansas economy and reform state government.
Wink called Kobach a “fighter” who does not cave to the red state’s left-leaning media.
“The Kris Kobach that I now know is not the Kris Kobach that is maligned by liberal Kansas media,” Hartman said in a statement. “He is a fighter, and for that he takes a lot of arrows, but he does not back down from the fight for our principles.”
Kobach’s campaign has said that their internal polling shows the Trump ally is leading Coyler by seven points.
The Kansas secretary of state has been a longtime champion for America’s working and middle class in his support for national immigration laws that benefit American citizens, rather than illegality and big business interests.
