Israel’s foreign minister, Eli Cohen, played a recording Tuesday at the UN Security Council of a phone call by a Hamas terrorist on October 7 to his parents on the stolen mobile phone of a dead Jewish woman in which he brags about killing 10 Jews in the attack.
The phone call, which was first revealed to international journalists by the Israeli military on Monday, was recorded because of an app on the woman’s phone. It was made by the terrorist during the massacre at Mefalsim, a kibbutz near the Gaza Strip.
Israel Defense Force“Dad, I’m talking to you from a Jewish woman’s phone. I killed her and I killed her husband. I killed ten with my own hands!” the terrorist exclaims, telling his parents he is in “Palestine.”
At first, his father is proud. “Allahu Akbar!” (“God Is the Greatest!”) he cries.
His son tells him to check WhatsApp for images of his grisly deed. A woman’s voice wails in the background — presumably, one of the victims on the kibbutz.
“Their blood is on their hands!” the terrorist continues. “Put Mom on.”
His mother is silent for a moment, then replies, “May God bring you home safely.” She realizes he is likely to be killed.
Other relatives come to the phone and tell him to come back to Gaza.
The terrorist is incredulous.
“What do you mean come back? There is no going back — it’s either death or victory. My mother gave birth to me for the religion.” He urges his family, again, to check their WhatsApp messages to see what he has done.
His mother has other concerns. “Promise to come back.”
Israel has criticized the UN for failing to condemn the Hamas terror attack unequivocally. On Monday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appeaed to justify Hamas atrocities by claiming they were a response to “occupation,” sparking outrage from the Israeli delegation. “His comments… constitute a justification for terrorism and murder,” said Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan.
