A newspaper handed out at the Labour Party conference in Liverpool carries a front page story likening the Jewish state of Israel to Nazi Germany.
The piece is written by Moshe Machover – a member of the Hampstead and Kilburn CLP – and carries the headline ‘Why Israel is a racist state’, the Jewish Chronicle reports.
Israel is “structurally racist, an apartheid state” is stated without question in the article alongside quotes from Israeli academics likening Zionism and Nazism, including by Hebrew University Professor Daniel Blatman who said the Netanyahu government’s policies were reminiscent of Germany in the 1930s.
Machover was briefly suspended from Labour in 2017 over a similarly inflammatory article, in which he cited a document by Reinhard Heydrich, an architect of the Holocaust, making “a friendly mention of Zionism, indicating an area of basic agreement it shared with Nazism,” as Machover described it.
The Campaign Against Antisemitism accused Machover of Holocaust revisionism in that piece. It said the author quoted a 1935 essay by Heydrich saying that the Nazi government “finds itself in complete agreement with the great spiritual movement within Jewry itself, so-called Zionism.”
Leading ‘Remain’ campaigner Ken Livingstone was also suspended from the Labour Party after making similar comments about Hitler, Nazism and Zionism.
Mr Livingstone said that Hitler supported Zionism “before he went mad and ended up killing 6 million Jews” and claimed there was a “well-orchestrated campaign by the Israel lobby to smear anybody who criticises Israeli policy as antisemitic”.
