Prince William will make an official Royal visit to Israel next month, with the Duke of Cambridge set to visit both Tel Aviv and the capital Jerusalem.
The prince’s five-day visit begins on June 24 in Amman, Jordan. He will also make calls to the cities of Jerash in Jordan and Ramallah in the West Bank, the current seat of the Palestinian Authority. The trip will end in Jerusalem.
It will be the first official tour of Israel or the Palestinian areas by a member of the Royal Family on behalf of the British government.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the visit by Queen Elizabeth’s grandson would be “an historic visit, the first of its kind”.
He said the prince, second-in-line to the British throne, would be welcomed “with great affection”.
Queen Elizabeth’s cousins the Duke of Kent and the Duke of Gloucester made unofficial visits to Israel in 1998 and 2007, while William’s father Prince Charles attended the funeral of former Israeli President Shimon Peres in 2016.
As Breitbart Jerusalem reported, Prince Charles took that opportunity to visit his grandmother’s final resting place in Jerusalem, arriving with fresh flowers from his garden at Birkhall to lay in her honour.
A full state visit to Israel by Prince Charles set down for 2017 was cancelled by UK Foreign Office officials worried it might upset Arab nations in the region.
Prince William’s trip was announced earlier this year, but the dates and destinations were only disclosed Friday.
