The Times of Israel reports: A top Israeli general warned Saturday that further rocket fire from the Gaza Strip towards Israel would be met with a “severe and painful response,” a day after a number of rockets were launched at southern Israel from the enclave amid tensions over US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Maj. Gen Yoav Mordechai, the military liaison to the Palestinians, wrote on his Facebook page on Saturday in Arabic that “irresponsible” terror groups are seeking an “escalation” with Israel, and warned Gazans that they will be the ones who end up paying the price.
“The continuation of the instances of [rocket] fire will lead to a severe and painful response by the Israel Defense Forces. Don’t try to test our strength,” wrote Mordechai. He reiterated that Israel holds Hamas, the terror group that runs Gaza, responsible for any attacks coming out of the enclave.
