TEL AVIV – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah Movement praised the massacre of 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics as a “heroic operation” that demonstrated the “courage and power” of Palestinians.
On the anniversary of the murders that rocked the world 44 years ago, Fatah hailed Salah Khalaf, Fatah’s founder and the leader of the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s Black September terror group responsible for the horrific attack.
Khalaf was also behind the murder of two American diplomats in Sudan in 1973, among other acts of terror.
On its Facebook page, Fatah noted the “heroic Munich operation that was carried out by fighters of the PLO Black September organization.”
“The Munich operation is still remembered and is recorded in history, and it demonstrates the meaning of the courage and power of the Palestinian resistance fighter and his self-sacrifice for the homeland and for the cause,” the text, translated by Palestinian Media Watch, read.
In another post, Fatah underscored its role in the attack with the phrase, “Munich operation, Sept. 5, 1972 – Fatah was here.”
The Palestinian leadership’s continued glorification of the Munich murders comes only two months after the International Olympic Committee finally paid tribute to the victims and their families with an official ceremony at the Rio Olympics.
Fatah also recently praised terrorist Thaer Abu Ghazaleh, a 19-year-old Israeli Arab who stabbed and wounded five Israelis with a screwdriver in Tel Aviv last October, congratulating the “martyr” in a Twitter post for “completing the mission” of “slaughtering your enemies.”
On Facebook, Abbas’ party noted that Israel had returned Abu Ghazaleh’s body so that he could be honored with a hero’s funeral.
“The occupation gave the body of Shahid (martyr) Thaer Abu Ghazaleh to members of his family to be buried in the Bab Al-Mujahideen cemetery on Saladin St. in Jerusalem. [Allah’s] mercy on our heroic martyrs,” the post read.
