JAFFA, Israel – A Cairo man has been arrested on charges of pushing his wife to her death from their fifth-story apartment window.
The fall left her critically wounded. She died later in the hospital, but just before she succumbed to her wounds she reportedly told authorities that her husband attacked her because she failed to wash his clothes.
Questioned by police, the suspect reportedly admitted that on the day of the murder he returned home for lunch and planned to leave the house for an important meeting. When he asked his wife about the clothes he was planning to wear to the meeting, she replied that they hadn’t been cleaned. He admitted to having beaten her in response, but denies having pushed her to her death.
He said that during the fight she ran on to the balcony and jumped, and he went downstairs as quickly as he could to take her to the emergency room.
The Egyptian media reported that the husband remained in custody.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian State Prosecution accused lawmaker and media personality Tawfiq Okasha of threatening his ex-wife.
Okasha was accused of threatening to kill and abduct his ex-wife if she didn’t cancel a complaint she had filed against him after he allegedly threatened to abduct their son. Following her complaint, police confiscated his gun, $20,000 in cash, and his $75,000 car.
Okasha was in the news after parliament voted his suspension in March for meeting with the Israeli Ambassador to Cairo, Haim Koren. Following the meeting,which took place in Okasha’s home, he was widely accused of promoting normalization with Israel. The affair culminated in Okasha’s forceful removal from parliament, during which he was physically attacked by a fellow MP.
