ANKARA (AFP) – Turkey on Wednesday issued arrest warrants for 47 former staff of the Zaman newspaper, an official said, in the country’s widening crackdown after a failed coup.

The official, who declined to be named, said the warrants were for “executives and some staff including columnists” of the paper, which was linked to US-based preacher Fethullah Gulen, accused by Ankara of plotting the coup. The daily had taken a strongly pro-government line since it was taken over by state-appointed administrators in March.
