Weather Channel reports: Of the tens of thousands of people who have sifted through the dirt at the Temple Mount, a young girl was one of the lucky ones, finding an ancient Egyptian amulet dating back more than 3,000 years.
According to the press release from the Temple Mount Sifting Project, the 21mm-wide amulet bears the name of Thutmose III, an Egyptian Pharaoh who ruled from 1479 – 1425 B.C.E.
Neshama Spielman, now 12, and her family were taking part in The Temple Mount Sifting Project, which recruits volunteers to search for artifacts at the site.
“While I was sifting, I came across a piece of pottery that was different from others I had seen, and I immediately thought that maybe I had found something special,” Spielman said. “It’s amazing to find something thousands of years old from ancient Egypt all the way here in Jerusalem. Celebrating Passover this year is going to be extra meaningful to me.”
