TEL AVIV – Three terrorists armed with a rifle, knives and an explosive device perpetuated a combined shooting and stabbing attack at Jerusalem’s Damascus Gate, one of the main entrances leading into the Old City.

Two female Border Guards and a civilian were wounded in the attack. One of the guards, identified as Hadar Cohen, 19, was critically wounded and later died from her injuries.   The second guard, a 20-year-old, was seriously wounded.

Micky Rosenfeld, Israel Police Foreign Press Spokesman, tweeted the following images from the scene of the attack.

Rosenfeld reported Israeli bomb disposal experts were able to successfully neutralize two pipe bombs at the scene.

The Jerusalem Post reported Palestinian sources identified the three terrorists as Ahmed Rajeh Zakarneh, Mohamed Ahmed Kmail and Ahmed Najeh Abu Al-Rub. The sources told the Post all three suspects hailed from the town of Qabatiya in the Jenin area of the northern West Bank.

The three terrorists arrived at the scene armed with Carl Gustav rifles, knives and explosive devices. The Border Guard unit noticed them and became suspicious. One terrorist presented a national ID card to a Border Guard as another pulled his weapon and opened fire.

The two guards were wounded by the gunfire. Their comrades opened fire on the terrorists in response. According to Palestinian sources, the terrorists came from the Jenin area.

This is the second terrorist attack at Jerusalem’s Damascus Gate in the last few days.  On Saturday, a 17-year-old was stabbed in the back and lightly wounded just outside the Damascus Gate.  The victim was identified as an American Israeli who immigrated to the Jewish state from Brooklyn six weeks ago in order to join the Israel Defense Forces.
