TEL AVIV – A 28-year-old man died on Tuesday following the discovery of dozens of bags of cocaine in his stomach.
The man, who lives in a town in Israel’s central region, arrived at the Sheba Medical Center after Israel’s emergency services Magen David Adom received a report that he had collapsed.
Doctors at the hospital found no fewer than 60 bags of cocaine, totaling half a kilogram (1.10 lbs), an amount deemed fatal if the bags split while in the man’s stomach.
District police believe it likely that the man was a drug mule who recently returned from abroad, smuggling the drugs by ingesting them. Police are looking into who the man was in contact with in a bid to discover for whom he worked.
The investigation is ongoing.
