TEL AVIV – Iran’s judiciary chief on Monday blasted Saudi Arabia for serving the interests of the United States and Israel by harming the Muslim world.
“Unfortunately, the Saudi rulers have turned into a laborer at the service of the Zionists and Americans,” said Sadeq Amoli Larijani in a speech addressing judiciary officials in Tehran.
“The illogical and unwise measures by the Saudi rulers have led to nothing but weakening the Muslim world, providing service to the world arrogance, and strengthening the terrorist stream,” Larijani said. He also added that Saudi officials think they are in control of all Islamic countries.
In addition, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani met with former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder on Monday. At the meeting, Shamkhani called on the Saudi leadership to cease its efforts at destabilizing the region by encouraging animosity toward Iran.
Saudi Arabia cut ties with Iran last week in response to an attack on its embassy in Tehran. The attack was a result of protests over Riyadh’s execution of Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, a vocal critic of the Saudi government.
Both countries are engaged in an escalating spat in which each blames the other for terrorism. Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif wrote a letter to the United Nations in which he blamed Saudi Arabia for numerous terrorist attacks, including 9/11, the Paris attacks, and the shooting in San Bernardino.
