JERUSALEM – Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings have released a Hanukkah song video with lyrics that give even reigning Hanukkah king Adam Sandler a run for his gelt.
The song attributes different Hanukkah elements for each day of the eight day festival. “Day 1/Time to light a candle/ For those Maccabees whose oil did burn and burn…Day 3/ Fry a bunch of latkes/ With applesauce, sour cream and all/… Day 5/ I like it more than Pesach/ Let’s leave the Manischewitz on the shelf.”

In keeping with the band’s 1960’s and 70’s revivalist endeavor, the video is a throwback to animated music videos of the same period.
The song even pays a sultry sax-filled homage to the all-time classic, “The Dreidel Song,” with Jones’ silken voice belting out that peerless, time-honored lyric, “Oh dreidel dreidel dreidel, I made it out of clay.”
Called “8 Days (of Hanukkah),” the song is featured on the funk/soul band’s latest album, “It’s a Holiday Soul Party.”
