TEL AVIV – In honor of Hanukkah, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted a photo of a dog dressed in a yarmulke and tallit – the Jewish prayer shawl – to his Facebook page. The photo attracted a litany of anti-Semitic comments in response.
Zuckerberg’s viral photo of his Hungarian sheepdog was accompanied by the message, “Happy Hanukkah from Beast and our little family to everyone celebrating around the world!” While many people responded in kind, wishing Zuckerberg and his new family a happy Hanukkah, many of the comments were filled with messages of hate, including a few that said “F**k Israel!” and “Death to Israel!”
One poster named Mohamed commented, “Go to hell, you and baby killers. A message to all Israeli (F**k you).”
Another wrote, “Mark for the sake of money you got crazy. For your advirtisement [sic] your fame you gone mad you just throw urine on the face of poor Palestinians you just need your lie fame.”
Mostafa Hassan commented, “F**k your Hanukah and fu k yoyr [sic] family.” Hassan, who clicked “like” on his own comment, received a response that read, “I feel bad for you to need to like your own comment in an attempt to anger others.” To which Hassan replied, “Non [sic] of your business sh*t bag yes I did it and I will do it again go f**k yourself… I wish Hitler got u all.”
Still another wordsmith wrote “F**k Your F**king Dog Mr F**kerberg!!!”
On the other side of the spectrum, a commenter called Marshall M. Becker wrote, “How can you celebrate Hanukkah but allow ‘Death To Israel’ Facebook page. And yes it has always violated your changing standards guidelines.”
Echoing Becker’s sentiments, the website Israellycool.com remarked, “Lucky Mark need not report these comments to Facebook, because we all know they won’t be found to violate Facebook’s ‘community standards.'”
