Two young women, one just 14 years old, were brutally raped in separate attacks in Germany on Sunday, and suspects in both cases are believed to be migrants.
The first attack took place in the early hours of Sunday morning at the popular “99 Cent” bar in central Hamburg at the famous Grosse Freiheit area known as Hamburg’s red light district. A 34-year-old Moroccan is said to have followed the 24-year-old woman to the toilet, locking the door behind him. Punching the woman in the face and raping her, the victim was eventually was able to escape and alert her friends.
Police were then called and surrounded the man who was still in the toilet, and arrested him as he tried to leave Berliner Kurier reports.
The arrest is not the first time the 34-year-old migrant has been in trouble with the law. Police confirmed that he had only just been released three weeks prior after serving time in prison for stealing a mobile phone. The Hamburg public prosecutor’s office also noted another theft during the summer in which the man had locked himself in a restaurant, stealing several items.
Also on Sunday morning, in the German region of southern Thuringia, another girl was sexually attacked by an asylum seeker. The 14-year-old was raped in a park by a 22-year-old migrant from Afghanistan.
Police had stopped the migrant who was travelling with his underage victim only around an hour before the attack took place but found nothing they considered suspicious, so allowed the Afghani to go on with the child.
Police were later called and found the young victim still in the park where she was raped. The migrant was arrested shortly after and has been taken into custody.
After the rape and murder of Maria Ladenburger, many members of the German public are on edge and the migrant policies of the German government are once again in the spotlight. Migrant sexual assaults have become an increasingly common phenomenon throughout the course of the migrant crisis as young girls have been assaulted at music festivals, in city centres, and in swimming pools.
Statistics released by the Interior Ministry in neighbouring Austria revealed the extent of the sexual crimes committed by migrants. Crimes have increased by 133 percent in the last year, and migrants make up more than 10 per cent of sexual assaults despite being a fraction of the total population of the country.
