A United Airlines passenger jet skidded off a runway shortly after landing at 100 p.m. at Newark Liberty International Airport on Saturday, officials said.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) tweeted a statement saying no injuries were reported at the time but added that the agency is headed to the airport to investigate.
The airplane, which flew in from Denver International Airport, reportedly skidded off the left side of the runway to a grass-filled area after it landed at Newark, officials said.
An airline spokesperson said some of the 166 passengers aboard the plane suffered minor bumps and bruises but were not in need of medical care.
The FAA said the plane’s left landing gear was stuck in the grass and that passengers would be evacuated via stairs. As soon as passengers exited the aircraft, the plane would be towed off the runway, officials said.
Newark Airport announced Saturday afternoon that it would cancel all arrivals and departures because of the incident:
A spokesperson for United said the aircraft “experienced multiple flat tires” when it landed, causing it to become “disabled.”
