Californians wait in long lines at the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles offices while legislators enjoy swift service at a DMV office designated just for them.
The Sacramento Bee reports that a DMV office exclusive to legislators is located in “the Legislative Office Building in downtown Sacramento.” The office allows active and former legislators to renew a driver’s license, register vehicles, and more without the hassle of long lines or wait times.
The focus on the legislators’ exclusive DMV office comes a week after elected Democrats defeated an effort to audit the DMV. The audit was pushed because of the excruciatingly long wait times endured throughout the state.
On average, residents of the state wait in line 69 minutes at their local DMV offices.
Assemblyman Jim Patterson (R-Fresno) was the driving force behind the audit, and he blamed Gov. Jerry Brown (D) and the Democrats for not taking the people’s concerns seriously.
Patterson also spoke out against the DMV office that is exclusively for legislators. He said, “I don’t use the special privilege DMV that’s here. I have gotten my registration and all that stuff the old-fashioned way like everybody else in my district. When you are living a public life the way most private people live, you’ll understand when taxes hurt and bureaucracies hurt.”
