House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) will reportedly visit the U.S.-Mexico border next week with 15 other Democrats.
According to a Tuesday Politico report, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus is organizing the trip to San Diego, where Pelosi and other Democrats will visit “at least one facility housing migrant children” who were apprehended at the border.
Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) tried to enter a detention center in Texas last week and livestream his visit and the migrant children at the facility. Officials blocked him from entering because filming unaccompanied minors is a major privacy violation, as a Department of Health and Human Services official told Breitbart News.
Pelosi and Democrats have blasted President Donald Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy for illegal immigrant border crossers.
And after Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced on Monday that the Trump administration will not grant asylum to migrants who claim they are victims of domestic or gang violence in their home countries, Pelosi said the “Trump Administration’s inhumanity and heartlessness know no bounds.” She also accused White House Republicans of condemning migrants to a “lifetime of violence or even death, just to score political points with their base.”
Pelosi has responded with nothing but over-the-top rhetoric to various Trump administration immigration policies and proposal. The House Minority Leader, for instance, previously blasted the Trump administration’s immigration reform proposal that sought to fund the border wall and limit chain migration in exchange for a path to citizenship for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients as a “campaign to make America white again.”
In addition, after Trump referred to MS-13 illegal immigrant gangsters as “animals,” Pelosi said that when Trump refers to MS-13 gangsters as animals, “you have to wonder: Does he not believe in the spark of divinity, the dignity and worth of every person?”
