Republican gubernatorial candidate Assemblyman Travis Allen (R-Huntington Beach) held a “Take Back California” rally that saw over 1,000 people gather at the State Capitol in Sacramento on Sunday to rev up voters and inspire Trump voters to support him at the ballot box.
“Do you want California to look like San Francisco with mounds of human waste?” Allen asked the crowd, according to the Los Angeles Times. “Do you want California to look like San Francisco and legalize heroin injection centers in your neighborhoods?”
Allen also blasted Gov. Jerry Brown for the passage of the gas tax, which he has vowed to repeal if he becomes the Golden State’s 40th governor in 2018. Allen has also vowed to defund “every sanctuary jurisdiction in the State of California” as one of his top priorities.
In an interview with Breitbart News in October, Allen said, “California communities have to be made safe. It makes absolutely no sense to shelter people who are in our state illegally and committing crimes with taxpayer dollars.” Allen also sid he would axe Gov. Brown’s high-speed rail project, which is largely seen as an expensive legacy project.
During his Sunday rally, Allen also blasted Democratic gubernatorial candidate Antonio Villaraigosa, the former mayor of Los Angeles, saying downtown L.A. looks like a “Third World country.” Villaraigosa served as the 41st Mayor of Los Angeles from 2005 to 2013.
However, the Times noted that Allen’s harshest criticism came for his fellow Republican contender, San Diego businessman John Cox, who has reportedly placed $4 million of his own money into his campaign.
Allen reportedly reminded the crowd that Cox voted for Libertarian Gary Johnson, the former governor of New Mexico, instead of Donald Trump.
“This guy Cox voted for a guy who believes in open borders, legalized drugs and legalized prostitution,” Allen reportedly said. “I don’t know about you, but that sounds like [Lt. Gov.] Gavin Newsom to me.”
Allen also reportedly said he was California’s only “true conservative” running in the race.
A poll released by the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) poll shows Newsom with 23 percent of support from likely voters and Villaraigosa with 21 percent.
Following Newsom and Villaraigosa was Democratic State Treasurer John Chiang at 9 percent, Republican Allen at 8 percent, Republican San Diego businessman John Cox at 7 percent, former state schools chief and Democrat Delaine Eastin at 4 percent, and former Republican Congressman Doug Ose at 3 percent.
