An employee at Torrance’s Pieology was fired after writing “F— the Cops” on the receipt for an officer who stopped in for lunch.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Torrance Police Sgt. Ronald Harris said the officer did not get mad when he noticed the writing on the receipt last Thursday. Rather, “he was very empathetic [and] wanted to take the person aside and ask them why they felt so harshly against law enforcement.” Harris said, “He wanted to talk to this person about it.”

The officer shared details of the incident with other officers on Monday. The anti-police message drew public attention when another officer’s tweeted her rage over what the employee had written.

Upon learning what the employee had done, Pieology tweeted:

Little is known about the the employee who wrote “F— the Cops,” other than the fact that the employee was a female.

The Torrance Police Department responded to the incident by saying, “The department really wants to understand why the person did that and understand if there’s something deeper, or why this person has ill will toward law enforcement. We really want to build bridges. Perhaps we can try to help, or try to assist her. That’s our take on it.”
