Sherri Papini of northern California was freed by her captors on Thanksgiving morning. The mother was found “still bound by restraints” after disappearing three weeks ago.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Papini was found beside Interstate 5 in Yolo County around 4:35 a.m after she managed to “flag down a motorist.” She was “treated for non-life-threatening injuries,” then reunited with her family.
Law enforcement is now seeking two females suspected of abducting Papini. “They were last seen driving a dark SUV and were believed to be armed with a handgun.”
Papini was abducted on November 2 while jogging, and Bosenko said it is not yet clear whether she knew the women who held her captive.
“Her husband reported her missing after he came home from work and found that she hadn’t picked up their children from daycare.” Some of her belongings–a “cellphone and headphones”–were found where the abduction reportedly occurred, about one mile from her home.
Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko said, “This investigation is far from over.” He also said no motive for the abduction has been uncovered.
