California Gov. Jerry Brown is campaigning for Hillary Clinton in the swing state of Colorado, telling voters there that they can make the difference in the 2016 presidential election.
Brown did not address large rallies, but small group of Democratic volunteers. As Politico’s David Siders reports:
If Donald Trump wins the presidency on Tuesday, Brown said over chips and salsa at an airport bar, billions of dollars in federal health care funding in California could be lost.
“And the climate change,” he said. “Game over. If Hillary doesn’t win, game over … That in itself is huge.”
It is rare for Brown to campaign for another politician or for a political cause that isn’t his. But pressed into service in the rural, southwestern reaches of the state on Sunday, Brown spanned across the Colorado Plateau, heaping praise on Clinton’s experience as first lady and secretary of state.
“Even the problems that she’s had to face, that becomes a source of insight and wisdom,” Brown told about about 50 people at a Democratic Party office in Cortez, up the street from a “Burger Boy Drive In” and a KOA.
Brown defeated Bill Clinton in the Colorado primary in 1992, and was the Clintons’ bitter political rival for some time, but all of that has now been forgotten.
In August 2015, Brown commented that Hillary Clinton’s email scandal had haunted her “like a vampire.” He was considered to be a long-shot presidential candidate who could compete with Clinton by showcasing his government experience in California.
However, a recent email released by Wikileaks revealed that Brown intended on backing Hillary Clinton as early as December 2014.
