On Friday Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) announced that she supports Prop 64, the voter initiative to legalize the recreational use of marijuana in California.
The House Minority Leader remarked when asked about the controversial measure expected to pass on Tuesday, “I will vote for it, but I have not made a public statement about it until right this very second.”
The Los Angeles Times reported that the former Speaker of the House endorses both prop 62, a measure to ban the death penalty in the Golden State, and Proposition 56 which would increase tobacco taxes by $2 per pack.
California’s likely next governor and current lieutenant governor, Gavin Newsom, also supports Prop 64 and reportedly has called on other California elected officials to endorse it.
Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein, reports the Times, does not support Proposition 64.
