SANTA MONICA — “It’s fixed!” John Mann, 70, told Breitbart News during Sen. Bernie Sanders’s Election Night rally, just hours after Hillary Clinton clinched the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination.
Mann, a member of the Green Party and a self-described “neo-Marxist Revisionist,” is part of the “Never Clinton” movement. Like many of his fellow Sanders supporters, has vowed to continue with the “political revolution” the Vermont socialist has waged, regardless of who wins the Democratic Party’s nomination.
Mann told Breitbart News that changed his party registration to Democrat just so he could vote for Sanders in Tuesday’s primary. He said the Associated Press report Monday that Clinton had amassed enough superdelegates to reach a majority “makes me very angry and very hurt and disappointed in democracy.”
Despite speculation that Sanders might concede and end his campaign Tuesday night, Sanders surprised the media on by promising to “continue the fight to Washington, D.C.” which holds its primary next Tuesday. “The struggle continues!” he said.
Nancy DelFavero, 63, a Hillary Clinton supporter, told Breitbart News that she was also disappointed by the AP’s premature announcement about Clinton. “I did not care for it at all. I think the AP jumped the gun. And it’s bad for both of the candidates,” DeFavero said.
“Once again, California gets the short end of the stick. This is the largest, most populous state and it seems like it’s an afterthought when it comes to the California primary.”
There are 475 delegates at stake in California.
Not everyone present at the Sanders rally was able to vote. Peyman Sarhadi, 38, moved to America from Iran in 2010. Although he is not yet a U.S. citizen, he was rooting for Sanders over Clinton, primarily because of his belief that she is “a pro-war candidate” and his fear that her presidency will not result in a favorable outcome for his home country. “I believe that overall, she’s very pro-Israel, which is not a problem. But she is not supporting the Iran deal as much as the other Democrats.”
Overall, he said he believes “that we delivered a really good message. This primary was completely different form the other primaries.”
Nestor Villatoro, an organizer with the National Nurses United union, said he was not in the Clinton camp, adding that he would only vote for her “if she wants to agree to give us free, single-payer healthcare, to tax Wall Street, to give national ratio to the National Nurses’s Union, and also to raise up the minimum wage to $15 an hour. Then I’ll vote for her. Because that’s why we’re supporting Bernie Sanders.”
