Former state Assemblyman, radio talk show host and strong 2nd Amendment advocate Tim Donnelly will announce Friday that he will be running for office in California’s 8th congressional district, which includes Mono, Inyo and San Bernardino counties.
March 11 is the final day for candidates to file to compete in California’s “jungle” primary election, which will take place on June 7. Donnelly will be the sole candidate to go up against the sitting incumbent Rep. Paul Cook (R-CA), whom he described as an “establishment congressman” in his press release.
I was not going to run for Congress, but then Congressman Cook decided to vote for a bill that would allow more unchecked, unvetted refugees and potential terrorists from the Middle East into our country just weeks after the terrorist attack in San Bernardino. Enough is enough. We need a Representative that will stand up for the people of this great district and speak out against the political correctness that has put us all at risk.
Paul Cook says one thing and then votes another way. In November, he supported a bill that was going nowhere to vet these potential terrorists. But then after the terrorist attack, he changed his mind, voted with neighboring Congressional democrats like Norma Torres and decided to vote for a bill that would allow for more unchecked refugees into our country.
This happens again and again through Cook’s Assembly and Congressional career. Whether it is saying he’s against sanctuary cities and then voting to give them funds, pretending to help off-roaders and then introducing a bill to take away their rights, or saying he will keep our promise to our veterans and then voting for a bill that fails to restore their pensions, but includes funding for illegal alien tax credits, this has to stop.
Cook is a Marine veteran. Her spent 26 years as a Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps, and serves on the House Armed Services, Foreign Affairs, and Veterans’ Affairs Committees. According to Congressional Quarterly magazine, Cook voted the Republican Party line 96.5 percent, the most of any Republican representing the Inland Empire on Capitol Hill.
However, Conservative Review gave Cook a “liberty score” of 44 percent on the conservative scale. The publication noted that “[a]lthough his district is considered a strong Republican district, Cook is among the most moderate members of the GOP… Cook has proven himself a moderate member of the GOP Caucus, supporting GOP establishment priorities on budget, spending, and debt ceiling issues.”
Donnelly, who ran for governor of California in 2014, will officially announce his candidacy during his radio show on Friday. Guests on his show will include conservative author and commentator, Michelle Malkin, Actors Rob Schneider, Nick Searcy and Basil Hoffman, and Dr. Gina Loudon and Ann-Marie Murrell of PolitiChicks.
On Saturday, he will also host his first fundraiser, where he will be auctioning off several firearms. Shortly after the deadly San Bernardino terrorist attack in which Syed Rizwan Farook and his Pakistani-born wife Tashfeen Malik killed 14 innocent people, Donnelly penned an op-ed calling for more guns, suggesting if the victims had been armed, they might still be alive today.
