House Foreign Affairs Chairman Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA) called upon President Barack Obama to keep his promise to the American people that he will “‘fully enforce’ sanctions on Iran’s illicit programs and confront its dangerous acts” following Tuesday’s passage of the Iran Terror Finance Transparency Act (HR 3662) by the House of Representatives.
Iran is cashing in on a $100 billion jackpot, even as it tests ballistic missiles, seizes American sailors and continues its support for terrorism. President Obama must keep his promise to ‘fully enforce’ sanctions on Iran’s illicit programs and confront its dangerous acts.
House Resolution 3662, if enacted, will enhance congressional oversight and ensure that the Obama administration does not lift sanctions against individuals involved in Iran’s ballistic missiles program or involved in carrying out acts of terrorism.
Just three Democrats voted in favor of the resolution.
Also on Tuesday, the Obama administration reportedly issued a veto threat against HR 3662, warning that the move would hinder its ability to implement the now-historic Iran nuclear accord. According to the Hill, the White House issued a Statement of Administration Policy:
By preventing the United States from fulfilling its JCPOA commitments, H.R. 3662 could result in the collapse of a comprehensive diplomatic arrangement that peacefully and verifiably prevents Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
