5-Year-Old Cancer Patient Proposes to Nurse

Pint-sized cancer fighter “Iron” Gideon Robinson proposed to his favorite nurse, “Tall Sarah,” in a hospital hallway in San Diego–and the video that captured the event is winning attention online.

Gideon made the proposal at San Diego’s Rady Children’s Hospital, where he has been fighting acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Gideon’s mom, Sosy Robinson, took the video. The video begins with the five-year-old proposer admiring the ring. At his mom’s prompting, he practices popping the big question.

After the practice run shown in the video, Nurse Tall Sarah is shown walking into a hospital hallway with a crowd gathered around, asking young Iron Gideon, “What’s up bud, are we gonna have a dance party?”

Sarah asks Gideon again, “What’s up?”, prompting the Batman-beanie-wearing young boy to drop to one knee with ring, box in hand, asking Sarah, “Would you marry me?”

“Of course! You can be my hospital husband,” Tall Sarah replies. She puts on the ring and the two hug. “Can we have a dance party now?” She asks.

Gideon told KTLA 5 in an interview that he wasn’t nervous proposing to his favorite nurse. He said he wants to make Sarah–the nurse who won him over with Legos–laugh because “she thinks I’m such a funny boy.” The local news outlet reported that family, friends, doctors and one very special nurse have been supporting Gideon through his cancer battle.

The event even made his hospital schedule for the day: “Gideons goals for today. There will be a proposal to tall sarah followed by an engagement reception dance party in the halls.”
