SAN DIEGO — The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for San Diego County, California on Wednesday afternoon.

A Tweet from the NWS office in San Diego read:

A public tornado warning was issued Wednesday afternoon and an alert flashed across television. Similar alerts appeared for flood warnings throughout the afternoon.

The warning came amidst El Niño storms that left several areas in the region flooded. A flash flood warning was also been issued for San Diego, Chula Vista and El Cajon lasting into the evening. The warning detailed a population of over two million affected.

Thunder and lightening moved through the county as well.

NWS San Diego also posted:

Waterspouts were spotted off the coast of Carlsbad, a city in northern San Diego County, at approximately 1:30 p.m. according to 10 News. Another spout was seen south of Dana Point in Orange County, just north of San Diego.

A 2:28 p.m. alert from the NWS San Diego warned area residents to “60 MPH winds expected with this line of t-storms moving E. Take shelter immediately!”

Several flood warnings were issued throughout San Diego county as well as areas of road closure. Heavy snowfall is expected in the mountains from Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning, according to the 10 News report.

Snowfall will diminish through Friday, but is expected to accumulate 6 to 12 inches in the 4,500 to 5,500 foot range. Data collected from the NWS also reported 2-4 feet of snowfall above 7,000 feet elevation and 1-2 feet of snow between 5,500 and 7,000 feet elevation.
