An unidentified California woman drove her dead 82-year-old husband cross-country overnight in the couple’s RV, arriving in San Diego on Monday.
It took almost 24 hours for the 68-year-old wife to drive her husband from Houston, Texas. Reporting from San Diego-area ABC News affiliate 10 News cited La Mesa, California police indicating that the husband had just been been released from a Houston hospital after enduring a stroke just a few days ago. He had reportedly been released with a “do not resuscitate” request.
La Mesa Police verified the account to Breitbart News.
Back on the road, the couple headed toward their San Diego home. Somewhere along the way, the elderly man died, according to Team 10.
Lieutenant Matt Nicholass with the La Mesa Police Department told Breitbart News that the woman “tried to get the subject to a mortuary and the mortuary would not accept it because they needed a death certificate so she went to the hospital.” This led the wife to drive the recreational vehicle to Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa with the body.
The woman is not suspected of committing any crime, according to La Mesa police.
Nicholass verified that the woman is, “not a suspect. There are not any charges being filed from our end. She showed up at the hospital with a dead body. The officers showed up to investigate and took her statement on the case. Officers were able to verify her account and no further investigation is being made.”
“We contacted the medical examiner. The medical examiner waived the case. That means they don’t suspect anything suspicious. That is one of our cues when determining whether to investigate further.”
The woman was reported as shaken when she arrived at the hospital. Sharp Grossmont is the largest health care facility in East County San Diego. Sharp Grossmont’s website provides procedural instructions on what steps to take in notifying people and places of the deceased.
