On Tuesday, Christopher Kohrs, 38, a.k.a. the “Hot Cop of the Castro,” was charged with two felony counts of hit-and-run stemming from a North Beach hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning.

Kohrs was allegedly driving his 2009 Dodge Charger westbound on Broadway in San Francisco when he allegedly rammed Victor Perez and Franco Vilchez, who were walking across the road, and then allegedly fled the scene.

The victims, both men in their 40s, are still languishing in a hospital although their injuries have been described as non-life-threatening, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Perez told ABC station KGO-TV, “That thought that we were just completely dead — for someone to have done this and see that, just to flee, I mean that shows … I don’t know what kind of judgment.” KGO reported that Perez’s face was bruised; Vilchez suffered a broken neck, nose and jaw.

According to the SFPD, Kohrs, who has been part of the department for seven years, was on medical leave at the time of the accident, but if he returns to duty he will be suspended. Investigators connected Kohrs to the crash using his car registration; he surrendered at the police headquarters building in Mission Bay on Sunday.

NBC Bay Area reported that police are investigating whether Kohrs was drunk at the time of the accident. District Attorney George Gascon said that because no sobriety test was administered at the time of the accident, prosecutors could have difficulty handling the case. He stated, “When a law enforcement officer commits a crime, the level of concern becomes much greater. We’re very concerned and we’re upset that this happened.”

Kohr’s celebrity started when residents of the largely gay Castro district started posting pictures of him on social media. The creator of an “appreciation” page on Facebook celebrating Kohrs’ good looks said he is pulling the page down.

Kohrs posted $100,000 bail; his first court appearance will come on Thursday.
