A homeless man living in an encampment in Los Angeles was found armed with two machine guns, four handguns, two makeshift silencers and ammunition. He was arrested by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies.

Robert Cunningham, 59, was found after the deputies arrived at his encampment located on private property in Harbor City, according to the Los Angeles Times. According to NBC News, the deputies were on a routine patrol.

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated Cunningham “was illegally in possession of, what appeared to be, two fully operational machine guns…Cunningham also possessed four handguns, two make-shift suppressors, and numerous rounds of ammunition.”

Department spokesman Mark Pope did not acknowledge the make and model of the weapons that were confiscated, but said they were illegally owned. Pictures from the department show an apparent World War Two-era submachine gun known as a “grease gun,” according to Reuters.

Pope added, “Dangerous and illegal weapons are off the street, and a previously convicted felon has been arrested.”

Cunningham was arraigned on Tuesday on weapons violations. On Wednesday he was held in lieu of $166,500 bail.
