Consumers preparing for Black Friday are arriving at stores far earlier this year than ever before; some customers have been camped out since last week.
LAist reported that one shopper said he and his friends had been waiting outside the Best Buy store in Riverside since last Wednesday, primarily to buy a 49-inch Toshiba TV, on sale for $150 on Thanksgiving.
Target and Macy’s have announced they will open their stores at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving; Walmart will be open all day, but their sales will not begin until 6 p.m. Best Buy will beat the other stores to the punch, starting their sales at 5 p.m.
According to CBS Los Angeles, the line at the Best Buy in Riverside started last Tuesday. One customer said he purchases $6,000 to $7,000 worth of merchandise for others, accumulating Best Buy rewards points, which he uses to pay for Christmas gifts for his own family.
Although some people in line are customers, others act as placeholders for their friends.
Bed, Bath and Beyond and Marshalls will be closed on Thanksgiving; REI will close on Thanksgiving and Friday so employees can be with their families.
