On Wednesday, a man with a “high-powered rifle” shot at police responding to a domestic violence call, and fired more shots at a neighboring apartment complex, prompting police to lock down streets in the area and causing the Federal Aviation Administration to shut down flights to and from San Diego International Airport.
The man allegedly shot at police at 9:12 a.m. at apartments on Brant Street near Kalmia Street. NBC 7 reported that the officers were apparently in the apartment where the gunman remains holed up (as of this writing) when he opened fire just after 9 a.m.
San Diego Police Dept. Lt. Scott Wahl said, “[Officers] were able to use a K9 to try and clear the apartment. At some point when they were inside the apartment, rounds began to come out of a door, an interior door, nearly hitting the officers.”
But the San Diego Union-Tribune reports no officers were injured when the suspect opened fire and no civilians have been injured either. Aviation officials indicated they shut down incoming air traffic because “arriving planes would have to fly over the shooter’s apartment to land.”
San Diego police officer officer Travis Easter told Breitbart News that people are being “told to stay indoors and find shelter.”
At 10:36 a.m 12 News CBS reported tweeted that SWAT was responding to the “report of a shooter with a high-powered rifle.” Numerous other outlets have reported seeing SWAT vehicles around the apartment complex.
