A 25-year-old mother who was once crowned Mrs. Orange County pleaded not guilty Friday to making child pornography using a 4-year-old family member.
However, investigators say she confessed during an interview to selling the footage to a Marine in exchange for money and gifts.
Meghan Breanna Alt of Irvine, California, was reportedly arrested on October 8 in San Diego during a traffic stop by officers with a multi-agency task force on child exploitation and released from custody on $100,00 bail on Oct. 21. She was reportedly with her husband at the time of her arrest.
According to the Daily Mail, it is unclear whether the “family member” involved is one of her children, and police say say Alt’s husband was unaware of his wife’s behavior.
In addition to creating footage of her underage relative and selling it to a California-based Marine, it is also alleged that Alt had advertised herself on Craigslist, posting ads that resulted in sex for money. The Orange County Register notes that her children may have also been present during one of the exchanges.
Alt reportedly volunteered at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in San Clemente before moving with her family to Irvine earlier this year. The church said she had no contact with children while she was there.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 15. The investigation is ongoing. Investigators reportedly believe there could be more victims.
