The NFL is coming to town for community hearings next week in St. Louis, San Diego and Oakland, the cities of three league teams making efforts to move in to the Los Angeles, California market.
The league announced Monday that it is holding the town hall-style hearings as part of “evaluating potential franchise relocations.”
The teams seeking L.A. relocation are the St. Louis Rams, Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers.
Two stadiums have been proposed in the Los Angeles market. One, proposed as a single team facility in Inglewood, would house the Rams football team. Another, in Carson, is planned as a two-team facility to be shared between the Raiders and Chargers. However, industry commentators have suggested the Inglewood stadium could be shared between the Rams and Chargers as a third option.
Next week’s public hearings are scheduled for October 27 in St. Louis, Missouri; October 28 in San Diego, California; and October 29 in Oakland, California. In attendance will be members of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s executive staff, who will take audience questions and comments.
The Rams and Raiders spent significant time as L.A. teams; however, both left in 1994, the Rams for St. Louis and the Raiders back to Oakland. The Raiders spent 14 years in L.A. while the Rams were there for 49 years. The Chargers spent just one year in L.A.–their first–but have been in San Diego ever since, over 50 years.
The public meetings will take place from 7-10 p.m. local time at each location. Those who would like to attend will need to pre-register for a free entry pass. Audience members will be allowed three minutes should that member choose to provide comment.
“Entry passes will be reserved for season ticket members of each team on a first-come, first-serve basis. Members of the community who are not season ticket members will also have the opportunity to request an entry pass on a first-come, first-serve basis,” the NFL detailed Monday.
Each event will be streamed live on NFL.com/publichearings.
