The three Haight-Ashbury drifters accused of murdering a backpacker in Golden Gate park and a hiker in Marin County reportedly have a reputation that precedes them.
Morrison Haze Lampley, 23, Sean Michael Angold, 24, and Lila Scott Alligood, 18, were known as “tweakers” for their methamphetamine habits, angry outbursts at liquor stores, spending their nights in Buena Vista Park and days roaming the strip as they stole from stores. The double-murder suspects are accused of killing Audrey Carey, a 23-year-old from Quebec whose body was found the morning of Oct. 3 in Golden Gate Park, and Steve Carter, a 67-year-old tantra instructor, who was gunned down on a popular trail northwest of Fairfax this past Monday evening.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the trio were arrested in Oregon outside a soup kitchen and are expected to be extradited to the Bay Area soon for prosecution. The Chronicle notes that San Francisco police revealed that the gun used in the killings was taken from a lock box in an unlocked car near Fisherman’s Wharf on either Sept. 30 or Oct. 1.
“They were tweakers, we don’t hang with them,” a 20-year-old woman who went by Tinkerbell told the Chronicle on Friday. “We smoke pot and we’re more mellow,” Tinkerbell said,
So far, nearly $80,000 has been raised in an online fundraiser which was set up in July for Carter’s wife Lokita in order to help pay for her chemotherapy treatment. The couple reportedly produced tantra videos, appeared at seminars and taught classes at Harbin Hot Springs, a popular resort that burned down in in a fire last month.
“I am beyond words,” Lokita wrote on the donation page. “And it is only the knowledge how much you all love Steve, and me, that keeps me going at this extremely difficult time.”
A public memorial was reportedly being planned for Oct. 31, though the location is yet to be determined.
