On September 1, California Assembly members voted 42 to 23 to repeal an exemption that currently allows concealed carry permit holders to carry their guns on college and university campuses for self-defense.
State senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) pushed the repeal without once citing a single instance where a concealed carry permit holder committed a crime while carrying on campus.
According to CBS Sacramento, the 42 to 23 vote was along party lines, with Democrats voting to disarm concealed permit holders on campus, and GOP lawmakers arguing that repealing campus carry “would limit the number of people who can respond to a school shooting.”
Assemblywoman Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield) argued that a repeal would immediately put women in a more defenseless posture on campus.
Ironically, Breitbart News previously reported that a Florida State University student with a concealed carry permit witnessed the November 20 shooting on that campus and was in a position where he could have taken out the gunman before innocents were harmed. But there was nothing he could because laws–like the very one Democrat Assembly members just voted for in California–barred the student from carrying his gun for self-defense.
The repeal of campus carry in California now goes to the full senate.
