California Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez (R-Lake Elsinore) has officially submitted a letter requesting a state audit of Planned Parenthood in California following revelations of what Melendez calls “trafficking of human organs for profit” contained in independent investigative videos recently released to the media.
Melendez submitted the request dated July 28, 2015 to Assemblymember Mike Gipson (D-Carson), Chair of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee. In the letter Melendez references the recent undercover videos of Planned Parenthood, which “have unearthed evidence of suspicious and disturbing practices by Planned Parenthood.”
“Planned Parenthood is running its own body part chop shop,” Melendez said in a Wednesday release of the letter (original emphasis).
The letter details federal law and alleged violations by Planned Parenthood affiliates within California. One specific video is referenced which includes the now infamous references aborted baby parts comments by Dr. Mary Gatter, Medical Director of the Planned Parenthood affiliate in Los Angeles and President of the organization’s Medical Directors’ Council: “if (the price is) still low then we can bump it up. I want a Lamborghini.”
“Planned Parenthood is subsidized with millions of taxpayers’ dollars each year, and should be held accountable and defunded for involving the California taxpayers in their black market human tissue schemes,” Melendez stated in the Wednesday release (original emphasis).
The letter goes on to say, “The State has a moral and constitutional responsibility to fully investigate this matter.”
Melendez adds that there is ” a plethora of undeniable evidence to substantiate these allegations; which triggers the state’s duty to act as responsible stewards the taxpayer’s money and as its constitutional law-making body.”
A representative with Assemblyman Gipson’s office told Breitbart News that he had not yet seen the letter, but that every letter requesting an audit is reviewed.
Breitbart News reported that U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia Burwell has stated that she has not seen the videos and has no intention of investigating alleged organ trafficking Planned Parenthood.
