Kathryn Steinle, the young woman killed last week by an illegal alien and convicted felon while she walked with her family on San Francisco’s Pier 14, was laid to rest in her home town of Pleasanton, California on Thursday.

The Associated Press reports:

A woman who was shot and killed by an illegal immigrant as she walked along a popular pier in San Francisco, has been laid to rest.

Family and friends attended an emotional service for Kathryn Steinle, 32, at Pleasanton in California as arguments continued over US immigration policy.

Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, 45, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in last week’s apparently random shooting, which led Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to criticize the security of the U.S. with Mexico….

The Mexican national had been been deported five times and was in the custody of the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department on March 26 under an old drugs charged, but was released when the charges were dropped. It came as immigration officials revealed that Sanchez should have been sent to them when he was arrested four months ago, but was let go in accordance with San Francisco’s ‘sanctuary city’ policy….

The victim’s grief-stricken family members, spoke out in tribute of their beloved daughter and sister, hours after her death.

‘She was the most wonderful, loving caring person and if anybody could take anything from this — if you love somebody, just tell them that you love them,’ said brother Brad Steinle.

In the wake of Steinle’s death, cities across California and the nation are re-evaluating “sanctuary city” policies, under which local authorities decline to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.
