The San Francisco Police Officers Association (SFPOA), the city’s police union, has blasted San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi and Public Defender Jeff Adachi following the shooting death of Kathryn Steinle July 1 by a five-time deportee and seven-time convicted felon who had come to San Francisco because it is a “sanctuary city” that does not enforce federal immigration laws.

The statement, accompanied by a photograph of Steinle, reads:

This tragic story has gone national and the blame game along with the finger pointing has started.

Adachi and Mirkarimi are blaming the federal government and ICE but it was not the federal government that made San Francisco a sanctuary city. That was done by local politicians decades ago and has been reinforced by many current politicians including Adachi and Mirkarimi.

Bottom line is a young innocent woman has been murdered in cold blood, in front of her father, by a 5 time deported illegal alien drug dealer. He is an ILLEGAL ALIEN not an undocumented immigrant and if he was where he belonged (Mexico) this innocent victim would still be alive.

This failed San Francisco policy led to the tragic death of Anthony Bologna, 48, and his sons Michael, 20, and Mathew, 16, in 2008 by a previously deported ILLEGAL ALIEN. It has now led to the equally tragic death of Kate Steinle. If this City and some of its elected official continue with this failed policy then it will happen again.

Rest In Peace Kate Steinle, Anthony Bologna, Michael Bologna, and Mathew Bologna.

The reference to “local politicians decades ago” may denote past San Francisco Mayor, now U.S. Senator, Dianne Feinstein. As the New York Times reported in 1985, under Mayor Feinstein the Board of Supervisors voted to designate San Francisco a sanctuary city for specified “refugees.” Feinstein approved the resolution. The sanctuary city policy was later more broadly applied.

Mirkarimi has defended his department’s denial of an ICE immigration detainer request for Juan Franscisco Lopez-Sanchez, Steinle’s alleged killer, citing policies consistent with sanctuary cities.

An ICE request generally asks the Sheriff’s department to simply notify ICE when they are releasing a specified individual, not hold them for an extended period of time according to ICE comments to Breitbart News.

Lopez-Sanchez was released from Sheriff’s Department custody just two-and-a-half months before the shooting death of Steinle. Lopez-Sanchez confessed to the shooting in a jailhouse interview despite his later courtroom plea of not guilty on Tuesday.

Feinstein and fellow Democrats are using the incident to promote policies promulgated under President Obama’s November 2014 executive action, which effectively gives amnesty to millions of foreign nationals illegally present in the United States of America.
