A Los Angeles-bound Greyhound bus originating from Arizona crashed into a ditch on San Bernardino’s 10 Freeway on Saturday after a passenger grabbed the wheel from the driver and forced it off the road.
Panic and frenzy ensued as all 23 people on board sought an expeditious escape through passenger windows, fearing the vehicle would explode. The incident resulted in minor injuries. Five people were sent to a local hospital for treatments.
When Breitbart News asked Investigting Officer Derek Stillmunks if the accused had expressed any remorse for what he had done, he said, “It was hard to read. When I asked about why he had done what he had, he said he didn’t remember anything.”
Officer Stillmunks said the man, in his 20s, was wearing a hospital bracelet prior to entering the bus because he had recently been discharged from a hospital.
After crashing the bus, he fled through the broken windshield but was discovered by authorities, bloodied and with a five-inch laceration on his forearm, in the parking lot of an Olive Garden.
Officer Stillmunks said the accused was treated for his injuries before being arrested and placed in jail. He has been charged with under section 245.2 of the penal code, which deals with assault with deadly weapon or instrument.
If the district attorney wishes to proceed, and he is found guilty, he faces up to five years in prison.
