effort to revive shooting victim on pier

San Francisco police have detained a suspect in the Pier 14 shooting that left 32-year-old Kathryn Steinle dead Wednesday evening.

Sources indicated to Breitbart News that the suspect, Francisco Sanchez, had been previously deported. Additional reports on criminal and immigration history are expected later Friday morning.

Steinle was with her father, Jim Steinle when she was struck in the chest with a bullet. He began CPR and she was rushed to the hospital, where she died just hours later. The nature and intended target of the shooting has been unclear.

Sanchez was apprehended approximately a mile south of the pier, according to police and the San Francisco Chronicle. Witnesses had taken cell phone photos of the suspect, which were shared with police. Sgt. Michael Andraychak told reporters that the suspect was on probation.
