Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach) has filed a criminal complaint against his former campaign treasurer, Jack Wu, for allegedly embezzling over $170,000 in campaign funds.

“I am disappointed and dismayed by this betrayal of trust,” Congressman Rohrabacher said in a press release that was issued by his attorney, according to CalNewsRoom.

Wu, 44, owns an accounting firm in Costa Mesa called WuBell. He was Rohrabacher’s treasurer for seven years, which is the amount of time Rohrbacher’s political attorney, Charles Bell, will be auditing his financial records.

The embezzlement was reportedly discovered this past May, when Rohrabacher and several committee members realized that money was missing from the credit card that is tied to a bank account from which Wu is being accused of embezzling funds. According to CalNewsRoom, the bank account had just $187 in it instead of the $185,000 of cash that was expected to be available on hand.

Rohrabacher has served as a United States representative since 1989.

According to the OC Register, Wu has written freelance columns for the periodical about local politics and even scolded several public officials for the very same thing he is now being accused of–i.e. misuse of public funds.

On Wu’s Twitter page, he describes himself as “Kick ass for da Lord! Tax guy too”
