One Orange County father-and-son combination owns what may be the record for a family’s perfect attendance at school over two generations. Rancho Alamitos High starting catcher Josh Rodney, who just graduated, never missed a day of school in his entire life–the same amazing accomplishment as his father, Tom, according to the Orange County Register.
Josh, the captain of the school’s baseball team, made the first team of the All-Garden Grove League and has been scouted by the Seattle Mariners. He fought for over 2,000 days to keep his record intact, following in the footsteps of his father, who once conquered measles through a weekend in order to attend school on Monday.
Tom, 62, who graduated from Magnolia High in Anaheim in 1971, did not attend kindergarten, but from first grade until the day he finished his first year of college he never missed a day, inspired by a story that his uncle had done the same.
Josh’s tenacity will be tested as he attempts to fill out his willowy 5’11’ frame. Graduating with a glittering 4.17 GPA, he wants to attend Long Beach City College, then transfer to Cal State Long Beach, which has a well-known baseball program, his fall-back plan? Become a lawyer, according to the Register.
