So many people people visited the Antioch Water park on Thursday afternoon to escape the heat and the drought that when chemicals in the water went awry, over 30 people complained of sickness, prompting the arrival of emergency crews.
Contra Costa County Fire Inspector Lisa Martinez officials said too much chlorine may have leaked into the pool.
Martinez added that seventeen people were taken in ambulances to local hospitals; another seventeen were treated at the water park and released. She said there were no major injuries.
NBC reported that most of the ill looked to be children. Martinez said Hazmat crews were examining the scene to find out what caused the chemicals to affect those taken ill, who suffered respiratory problems.
