Bay Area delivery rooms have been experiencing a rise in birth rates as the recession has faded, particularly in one of the Golden State’s wealthier enclaves, Walnut Creek. However, it is unclear as to whether the economy is the impetus for this sudden rise in new births.
There were 2,900 births at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek last year–400 more than average, with just as many expected this year, according to local CBS News affiliate in San Francisco.
“It needs to be the right time,” new parent Linette Edwards told CBS. “And if the economy is good…people feel a lot more comfortable….And what do you know? Babies happen!”
