A flat tire stalled a woman in labor en route to the hospital early Monday morning. The woman chose to wait with her family on the side of the I-5 freeway in San Diego while the tire was changed.
The family’s call for help sparked a response from not only a tow truck, but ambulance and fire engine as well, according to local ABC News affiliate 10 News.
Rescue crews attended to the woman while the tow truck driver changed the tire on the side of the freeway.
Forgoing a trip in the ambulance, the woman chose to continue in the car with her family the rest of the way to the hospital.
In March, an Orange County woman gave birth on the side of the 15 freeway. KTLA reported that firefighters assisted as it was discovered the baby had its umbilical cord wrapped around its neck, but were able to deliver her safely and rush mom and baby to the hospital.
Last September, another woman gave birth on the side of an Orange County freeway over a week before her due date. The Orange Country Register spoke with Fire Authority Capt. Shane Sherwood, who said that the phenomenon of mothers giving birth before making it to the hospital is common. Sherwood himself has delivered three babies, and remarked that it is a great experience.
